Student Advocacy & Support
Finding your place on a college campus can be difficult, especially when you are far from home, first-generation, and/or unsure of what the college experience holds. IDA serves as a home base for students looking to find their community at MTSU. In the moments when you aren’t sure where to go or who to talk with about making your experience your own, we are here to help. Our office houses resources, training, and programming for students from under-represented and minoritized groups.
Programming
Throughout each semester, IDA works to schedule cultural events that highlight and increase awareness of the various cultures present on our campus. These events often include traditional foods, music, and dancing while highlighting the cultural significance with the broader campus population. It is important that we are able to share our various cultures with one another to contribute to production of citizen leaders at MTSU. Check out past events under the programming tab in the navigation menu on the left.
Critical Conversations
There will be times throughout your college experience when tough conversations need to happen. When the time comes, the IDA office hosts critical conversations to discuss current events or topics relevant to the development of college students at MTSU. Historically these conversations have focused on family dynamics, mental health, campus issues, and/ or current world events. Critical conversations are open to the MTSU community and we will all perspectives to contribute to a collaborative and productive conversation.

Student voices are an important contributions to the MTSU community. Currently the IDA Advisory Council meets on the last Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in the IDA Center. The council meets to discuss various topics in relation to how to improve and/or enhance the student experience at MTSU.
